As an official Olympic sponsor, ArcelorMittal manufactured the Olympic torch, which will carry the Eternal Frame around France on a 68 day tour. The tour will be proclaiming the green credentials of ArcelorMittal. But the reality is far less shiny. So we will join the tour on the ground, to reveal the dirty reality of pollution, emissions, and disruption to lives. We are here to expose the company’s attempts to greenwash and sportswash its image with the Olympic flame.

Shiny Claims, Dirty Flames is a campaign organised by an alliance of different organisations, facilitated by the Fair Steel Coalition, concerned about the terrible human and climate costs of mining and producing iron and steel. Companies like ArcelorMittal are failing to take adequate action to cut their emissions, to use better technology to clean up production, and to take their responsibilities on human rights seriously.
